Making a Metal Oxide

Aim:
To make a metal oxide and observe the difference in properties of the product compared to the reactants.

Magnesium: (Mg)
Before burning it, it was a metallic lustre then when put over the Bunsen burner it turns into a bright white light.

Iron: (Fe)
Before burning it, it was a metallic lustre and then when put over the Bunsen burner it turned into black.

Copper: (Cu)
Before burning it, it was a bronze/brown colour and then when put over the Bunsen burner it turned into dark purple/black.

The equations:
Magnesium + Oxygen ---> Magnesium Oxide
Iron + Oxygen ---> Iron Oxide
Copper + Oxygen ---> Copper Oxide
